A Dark, Wet Love Story
Invasion of the Joyva Bars follows the asylum seekers from the Europan ocean to Earth, clockwise from top left:
- The refugees commandeer a ship.
- Nö and Férfi fall in love on the long voyage to the alien planet.
- Férfi sacrifices his life to save Nö from the alien ground vehicle.
- The alien leader captures the surviving refugees.
By 1969, the government had grudgingly acknowledged the existence of the Europans and the Internment Lagoon, but little else was known. Public interest was again at a peak. The studio hired high profile writers and actors, and brought on Dino de Laurentiis to design and oversee the entire production.
The film was a critical and, for an avant-garde production, a commercial success. The alien point of view was a well-kept secret until release, and the resulting buzz about the new REAL version of events was great for box office.
As might be expected, the filmmakers included the previous movies' more sensational falsehoods. The armada still battles over the Bexley skies, and Principal Jones still gets a murderous turn, but the movie addresses the most sensitive issues head on. The Europans were merely trying to escape from the despotic rule of their government, and were almost wiped out in the resulting misunderstanding.
The government characterized the plot as "standard movie fantasy." To which the filmmakers provided the following response: "To protect the safety and privacy of the Europans, who remain in captivity to this day, we cannot comment on the facts presented in Invasion of the Joyva Bars. We urge everyone to see the movie and decide for themselves."
