The 5th Column

This damaged photograph may be the earliest documentation of the Europan presence in the small Columbus, Ohio suburb of Bexley. Neighborhood boys are gathering at the local 5 & 10, where poisoned halvah caused antisocial and violent behavior in several children.

Within a few weeks, biochemists at nearby Ohio State University succeeded in isolating a previously unknown peptide responsible for the boys' behavior. But by then, the war was already over.

The photograph supposedly turned up during an investigation. Bexley police denied any knowledge of the photo, and the investigation was closed and the records sequestered by the US Attorney's Office.
